Working in Early Childhood

In this workshop participants will identify and practice the skills required for creative storytelling:

Participants will experience

Participants will explore the importance of story in the development of language, concepts and ideas and the way storytelling and language can enrich and strengthen relationships.

An important part of the workshop is learning from each other. Participants will be encouraged to share their most successful stories, rhymes and chants. Learning to swap and teach others ensures that good ideas are kept alive.


Writing and Speaking Workshop - Old Sailor

60 minutes

I co-present this workshop with author Claire Saxby.

Students will create and perform a new story of their own. What would happen if we were to take an old story and make it new?

Claire has taken a well-known tale, There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly and written a new story There Was an Old Sailor who Swallowed a Krill (published by Walker Books). Students will experience the magic and playfulness of wordplay as Claire and Jackie guide their construction of a new version of an old favourite.

Students learn about:

Students will work in large and small groups in developing their own new story. Upon completion, Claire and Jackie lead students in performing their new story.

Storytelling for beginners

In this workshop participants will identify and practice the skills required for creative storytelling.

Participants will experience

Participants will explore ways to memorise stories, the use of the senses and the importance of timing.

This workshop is useful for singers and musicians, teachers, poets and any one who aspires to share the love of a good story.
